I am running Ubuntu Jaunty 9.04 with LAMP stack, subversion and trac with a tracd lighweight web server front-end for development purposes. Today several users started experiencing something strange, and it took me a while to find a solution so I thought I’d share my findings with you.
The error returned by trac was:
Authentication information not available. Please refer to the installation documentation when http://tracserver/trac/ was loaded into a browser.
Googling the error code brought me to this forum thread.
The solution seemed pretty simple.
This was the line that started my tracd:
tracd -p 8080 --basic-auth=v3,/home/andre/html_dev/trac/.htpasswd,/home/andre/html_dev/trac /home/andre/html_dev/trac
Changing the starting line to the following fixed the problem:
tracd -p 8080 --basic-auth=*,/home/andre/html_dev/trac/.htpasswd,/home/andre/html_dev/trac /home/andre/html_dev/trac
Notice that the only thing changed is the –basic-auth=v3 to –basic-auth=*
